Between States

Concept Note

Through this video I explore the idea of construction and how it exists wherever we go. It is something that is constant in all the cities changing the narrative of the city. It is a never-ending process. Building rebuilding. Construction becomes a metaphor for the city’s evolving identity and, by extension, my own. The relationship between us is dynamic; as the city changes, so do I.

This work was exhibited in a way that separated the audio and video. The video was projected on a wall with the audio playing in the adjacent room. I wanted the audience to watch the video and listen to the audio from a distance before proceeding to listen to the audio without the video. I questioned what it meant to see construction but not hear it as well as to hear it but not see it.

This video work is inspired by the changes in Pune, my hometown due to the metro construction and the never-ending construction in O.P Jindal Global University where I am pursuing my bachelor's degree.

The piece is an inquiry into how we perceive, navigate, and are altered by the ceaseless activity of construction—both as individuals and as communities shaped by the cities we call home.
