Concept Note
"Melody Map" is my attempt to give visual form to something we all experience but rarely think about-how different music genres feel uniquely different from one another. I've transformed twelve distinct musical styles into a unified visual language, creating what I like to think of as an artistic map where sound literally becomes form.
Each genre gets its own visual personality through carefully chosen symbols, shapes, and colors that try to capture what makes that music special. Take Thrash Metal-I've used explosive, radiating forms because that's exactly how that raw energy hits you. Compare that to Folk Rock, where I've used vintage radio imagery because there's something so intimate and nostalgic about those melodies, Like voices from another time. This project came from wondering: how do musical experiences actually shape the emotional landscapes we carry inside us? How do these different sonic territories create their own geography in our lives?
What I'm really trying to do with this taxonomy is bridge that mysterious gap between hearing and seeing. I want people to feel the music through each icon the same way I feel it when I'm listening, When we create visual identities for musical styles, we're essentially mapping how we internalize and organize all those diverse sonic experiences that become the soundtrack to our memories, relationships, and who we are.
